Frank A. Calabrese, 93, Ossining Resident

OSSINING, N.Y. – Frank Anthony "Sonny" Calabrese, died Monday, Feb. 29 at The New York State Veterans Home in Montrose. He was 93.

He was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., in 1922, to Emily Liebelt and Frank Calabrese. 

He graduated from Edison High School in 1940 and worked at Sikorsky Helicopter in Stratford, Conn., until 1942. 

He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942 and during World War II, he served active duty as an electrician's mate, first class, aboard ship in the Pacific. He received the American Area Campaign Medal, Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

After the war, he worked for The New York Telephone Company.

He married Josephine Pisani in 1950 and lived in Ossining for the past 53 years.

He is survived by his wife; daughter Linda and her husband, Brian, son Frank and his wife, Deborah, and daughter Lori and her husband, Pete; grandchildren Frank, Kristyn, Kayla, Anthony, Julie, Kellie, Megan and Frank; and his brother Dan Calabrese.

He was predeceased by sisters Martha, Eleanor, Matilda and Charlotte.

Waterbury & Kelly Memorial Home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, handled the arrangements A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 381 N. Highland Avenue, Ossining, followed by interment at St. Augustine's Cemetery in Ossining.
