While working in the field of architecture, Quezada said he knows the process can look difficult but wants to let residents know that village building and planning department officials are working to make the process easier. The Village of Ossining is set to host a workshop Thursday evening for homeowners to discuss and demonstrate how to obtain building permits through the village’s application process. The workshop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center.
“We are here to make this easier for people who want to obtain building permits,” Quezada said. “We are here to help and I think we’re doing a lot to reach out to people but there’s always room for improvement.”
Quezada said he has been pushing for the workshops for a number of years and hopes it will raise the number of building permits in the village.
“I get questions all of the time about how this is done and there really haven’t been many opportunities for everyone to learn about it,” he said. “A lot of people are interested but they don’t know the process and because it is a bit of a long process it’s easy to get a little confused. This is going to be a great opportunity for people to get all of the answers they’ve needed.”
With more than 25,000 people in the village, Quezada said it’s possible there will be a high enough interest that not all questions will be answered Thursday.
“We need to get this started to help people learn how to at least start the process,” he said. “If this is successful I would like to do at least three more of these to get to all of the problems people have and to help take them through the entire process.”
Quezada said it’s his plan to use the questions people have as a backbone for streamlining the process in future years in the village’s building and planning department. At the end of the workshop, Quezada hopes residents know the various review stations within the department, the process for a permit application review and how to organize a proposed project and application materials in a way that takes a project through the permit application review phase quickly and efficiently.
