On Monday morning, officers Richard Kamp and Andrew Pavone received a report of an unresponsive party in the village, prompting an emergency response. Upon arrival at the scene, the officers said they observed the subject, who was unconscious and displaying indications of a potential opioid overdose.
Using department-issued Naloxone - also known as Narcan - the two officers were able to come to the subject’s rescue, preventing what was described as a potentially fatal event. The subject was then transported to a local hospital for immediate treatment.
According to drugs.com, Naloxone blocks or reverses the effects of opioid medication, including extreme drowsiness, slowed breathing or loss of consciousness. It is used to treat a drug overdose in an emergency situation.
The department offered well-wishes for the patient’s future.
“We’re hoping they take this opportunity to get some help long term,” the post read. “We’re here if you need us.”
