Tuesday marks Ossining's 200th year as a village -- it was incorporated on April 2, 1813, becoming the first village to be incorporated in the state-charter.
On that day this year, Ossining will hold a special kick-off event at Budarz Theater at the Ossining Public Library. Paintings and photographs that capture 200 years of Ossining's people, landmarks and local treasures will be on display. Mayor William Hanauer and Ossining Historical Society member John Wunderlich are scheduled to speak at the kickoff event, which will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The event will also open a six-month long outdoor art exhibit, titled "Ossining in 3D", which will feature sculptures in place at Ossining's historic sites and waterfront areas.
Ossining will also host various events throughout spring, summer and fall to commemorate its 200th anniversary. These events include the Ossining Village Fair, movies on the waterfront, a best pizza in Ossining competition and a summer concert series. A full list of the events and their dates can be found on the village website.
