Village of Ossining Mayor Victoria Gearity announced there will be a zero percent tax rate increase on the 2017 village budget. It is the first time in 25 years that Ossining has passed a budget with no tax rate increase, Gearity said.

The budget also stays more than $100,000 under the state's mandated two percent cap on the tax levy for the second year in a row, Gearity said.

"It is a credit to the village’s ongoing commitment to smart investment in our infrastructure, and efficient use of taxpayer dollars," Gearity said.

Employee benefit costs increased by 8.36 percent, with health insurance costs increasing nearly 14 percent. Gearity said they were able to find savings by installing LED streetlights and reducing the village's electric bill by 22 percent.

"This is a stellar example of partnering with other municipalities for increased buying power, and implementing environmentally smart technology that provides a better product, at a significant cost reduction year after year," Gearity said.
