OSSINING, N.Y. – The John V. Chervokas Spray Park, located in the Louis Engel Waterfront Park, will receive a new recycling system to treat and re-circulate the water, saving the park nearly $25,000 in annual water bills.
State Sen. David Carlucci (D-Westchester/Rockland) provided a $100,000 grant to the town to fund the new system. He and Ossining Town Supervisor Sue Donnelly announced the new project July 16.
"I want to thank Senator Carlucci for providing this critical funding to the Town of Ossining. Working together, we were able to make sure this project will lessen our environmental impact while maintaining a great and affordable place for kids to have fun in Ossining,” said Town of Ossining Supervisor Sue Donnelly.
Town officials estimate the water bill for the park will decrease to $5,000, a savings of almost 80 percent.
"Working together with the Town of Ossining, we have found a common sense way to save taxpayers a significant amount of money while making sure to protect our environment.
"I was happy to provide critical funding to this project in order to ensure the park will have a lighter environmental footprint by creating a water recycling system,” said Sen. Carlucci.
The project is scheduled to start at the end of this summer.
