New York State Supreme Court Justice Linda Jamieson ruled on Thursday, Oct. 31 that the Maryknoll property is in Ossining and not the Town of New Castle.

Peter Tripodi, Republican candidate for District 9 county legislator against incumbent Democrat Catherine Borgia, had argued the property was actually in New Castle and in District 4. Maryknoll tends to heavily vote Democratic.

District 9 covers Ossining, Briarcliff, Croton, Cortlandt and Peekskill.

Jamieson ruled while a portion of the property is in New Castle, the front door is in Ossining.

“It is clear the Sisters consider themselves to be residents of Ossining,” Justice Jamieson said in her ruling. “Their ties to that community are long, deep, and, this Court is sure, widely appreciated.”

Maryknoll, which has been in existence since 1911, said its goal was to remain in Ossining. Tripodi plans to appeal the ruling.

“Trying to gain a political advantage at the expense of the Maryknoll Sisters was utterly disgraceful,” Borgia said. “Peter Tripodi should be ashamed of himself for trying to suppress the votes of these wonderful women who’ve dedicated their lives to service. There is no place for this type of dirty politicking in Westchester."

In a statement, Tripodi did not address the judge's ruling, instead going after Borgia's record as legislator, saying that's why she's making Maryknoll an issue.

"Catherine Borgia is the only legislator in Westchester County whose incompetency has caused her to miss four campaign finance filings even though these filings are required by law to further fair and transparent elections," Tripodi charged. "Catherine Borgia is the only legislator in Westchester County whose incompetency has caused her to hold back millions in capital projects that could improve our economy and infrastructure."

Borgia called Tripodi's charges untrue blaming the filing on a Board of Elections filing ID issue and said it was preposterous to claim she has held up capital projects,

"They are all up to date now," Borgia said. "As chair of the Government Operations committee, I've shepherded to bipartisan passage over $100 billion dollars in capital projects. The reason that work is being held up is because the Astorino administration's devastating cuts to the county's  planning , engineering, and public works departments have left us too short staffed to properly manage all of the capital projects passed by the board.
