Cause Of Death Pending For 6-Month-Old Ossining Girl

OSSINING, N.Y. ? It could take weeks to determine what caused the death of a 6-month-old baby girl on New Year's Day, the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office said.

Sky Gabriella Recino was buried Friday, Jan. 4. She was taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital on the evening of New Year’s Day under cardiac arrest, Village of Ossining police said Friday.

Representatives at Phelps informed the police department of the death and the department conducted a preliminary investigation, said Det. Lt. William Sullivan.

“Unfortunately, the baby died at Phelps, but it appears to have been from natural causes,” Sullivan said Friday. “We’re waiting on lab reports to come back, but it’s pretty much concluded that it was a natural death and there was no criminal activity involved here.”

The results of toxicology tests could take weeks, the medical examiner's office said.

Sky’s family returned from the burial Friday afternoon. “Today was not a good day,” said a man who was gathered with a group of mourners outside the home of Sky's grandfather. “It was a very tough day for everyone.”
