Artwork by the Ossining Arts Council will come to life in six short plays by the Westchester Collaborative Theater inspired by the artwork at the Steamer Company Firehouse at 117 Main St. in Ossining.

"No one in the audience will know which of the paintings will be dramatized until it happens," Alan Lutwin, president of the Westchester Collaborative Theater.

The art groups got together a few months ago, when playwrights chose paintings that inspired them at an exhibit at the Ossining Library. The playwrights submitted their plays in July and have been working on them the past few months.

"I am very excited about this event happening," Lutwin said. "We see this as a joint venture. It's all about promoting the local arts in Ossining. We want to get the word out to everyone."

The plays are about five to seven minutes long, and range from dramas to comedies. All the plays are world premieres.

"The Ossining Arts Council is a vibrant organization," Lutwin said. "Both organizations are growing. Let's let people know that we are there. If they have any interest in performing arts, we are right in their doorsteps."

Lutwin, who has been president for three years, said he has heard a lot of positive responses since the event was announced.

"This has never been done in Ossining," Lutwin said. "It's innovative. We're taking the initiative and reaching out. We're trying to become an integral part of life in the village."

Lutwin, an Ossining resident, said the Westchester Theater Company has more than 100 members including playwrights, actors and directors.

"It's been very fulfilling to see how enthusiastic people are," Lutwin said..

Tickets are $15 for the docent-led tours and $25 for a tour and the reception.  Tickets may be purchased on line at www.ossiningartscouncil.org or www.wctheater.org .
