Yonkers resident John Singh was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that happened on Saturday, Nov. 16, Yonkers Police said on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
According to the department, at around 1:30 p.m. on the day of the incident, officers responded to an apartment at 760 Bronx River Rd. in Yonkers and found a man with a stab wound to his chest at the entrance.
The man told officers that he had been stabbed in the chest and that he had stabbed his brother-in-law. Police then entered the apartment and found the second man lying unconscious in bed who also had a stab wound to his chest.
Both men were then rushed to a nearby hospital. There, the victim, 78-year-old Bernard Barua of Yonkers, died of his injuries.
According to Yonkers Police, an investigation found that Singh and Barua had been alone in the apartment at the time of the incident.
Singh was later arraigned on a count of second-degree murder. He is expected to be remanded at the Westchester County Jail pending his release from the hospital.
The case is now being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office.
"This tragedy is a stark reminder that domestic violence can shatter lives at any time, even as we approach what should be a season of peace and togetherness," said Yonkers Police Commissioner Chris Sapienza, who continued, "Our hearts go out to the victim's family and friends as they grieve this profound loss."
