OSSINING, N.Y. - Julia Power, a former registered nurse from Ossining, died at her home on Nov. 10. She was 95.
She was born in McAdoo, Penn. on Feb. 21, 1916 to Michael Riffon and Margaret Baranchek Riffon. Power went on to graduate from Hazelton Conservatory of Music and from Queens College in 1945, becoming a registered nurse.
On Jun. 30, 1946, she married James F. Power in Yonkers. They lived in Central Islip, N.Y. and Tarrytown before moving to Ossining in 1975. They were happily married for 59 years before his death in 2005.
Power shared her husband's passion for travel and they'd spend summers camping in U.S. and Europe. In their retirement, Power and her husband continued their travels, attending Elderhostel programs throughout the U.S. While she loved to travel, she'd always savor the return home.
Power is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Power, a sister-in-law and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, James, her brother Emil Riffon and her sisters Helen Riffon Daciuk and Mary Riffon.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining. The funeral mass takes place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Church in Ossining, followed by interment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
