Ossining Waterfront Concert Series Starts Friday

OSSINING, N.Y. – Ray Prisament says this year’s Summer Concert Series on the Ossining waterfront should be bigger, better and hopefully drier than last year.

The annual series, which features a new musical act at 7 p.m. every Friday at Louis Engel Waterfront Park, returns Friday with the jazz band Act 3. The concert series is made possible through dozens of local sponsors and the Ossining Waterfront Vision Committee. Prisament, the chair of the committee, said the group was very happy with last year’s turnout as the series was coming back from a hiatus. Last year, several acts were forced to go to the Ossining Public Library because of rain, but that is not an option this year.

“This is our flagship for our committee and the only disappointment last year was the weather,” Prisament said. “This year, it’s weather permitting so we’re hopeful it’s going to stay dry. Last year, we had some great concerts but unfortunately some were rained out. Now, we have a few more acts and a wider variety and we just need the weather to stay clear.”

Prisament also gave a nod to donors like Cappelli Enterprises and Ginsburg Development, the developers of One Harbor Square, as well as the town and village of Ossining.

“We’ve gotten a lot of support and it’s been wonderful to see the community come together for that,” Prisament said. “And our committee, we’re essentially advisers to the village board and we could meet once in a while and discuss things and leave it at that. But we also try to have an active role and we all believe that the waterfront is underutilized and it’s a major asset to Ossining. We’re hoping that the concert series this year will start to change that.”

The free series is set to feature Act 3, The Doug Corellus Quintet, Jiggsazz, Peter Herger and other local acts each Friday through the end of August. Food, games and other events also will be available throughout the summer for the series.
