OSSINING, N.Y. A photo taken outside St. Augustines Church in Ossining could have divine implications.
After walking out of the church following mass on Aug. 6, Roger LeBlanc and a friend struck up a religious conversation. Normally, LeBlanc said he gets into his car and leaves. But on that morning, he said he and his friend looked to the skies and noticed something they could not quite explain. One of the clouds in the sky seemed to make a perfect cross just beyond the church.
I took a photo and said to (my friend) Look to the left of the cross. It looks like Our Lady, LeBlanc recounted in a blog posting about the moment. Shortly before this photo was taken the cross behind the tree with no leaves looked like two solid beams made from light.
When asked for comment, representatives at St. Augustines said they were not interested in having the church associated with the image in any way.
In the posting, which was linked to the site SpiritDaily.com, LeBlanc notes that he cannot explain the photo and that such things are for the church to discern if there was ever a need to do so. But LeBlanc adds that others have told him that they can see very clear images of the Virgin Mary next to the cross and that the cross itself possibly shows the face of Jesus.
Some people express the similarity to several apparitions; Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Our Lady of Guadalupe with her posture and the glow around what looks like the Tilma, and Fatima, LeBlanc wrote. When you zoom in there is also the semblance of Our Lady of LaSalette who went to cover her face as she wept and prayed.
The news of the photo did not surprise Sister Eileen Finnerty of St. Anns Church in Ossining, who has seen dozens of so-called divine images pop up lately, including the image of the Virgin Mary spotted last month in Sleepy Hollow. In regard to the images, Finnerty said the church would likely not take a stance to confirm the images.
Periodically you will see things like this where someone saw the Virgin Mary in plate glass or bread, she said. I dont think the church would verify them as authentic images. They are probably something that involved from the spirituality of the individual who is looking at them at the moment.
