First Village Coffee, Ossining
What Makes It "Strong": This recently opened cafe -- four months old in January and owned by husband and wife Luis and Kathryn Corena -- is proud to partner with specialty coffee roasters, Irving Farm, a Hudson Valley-based roasting company which focuses on direct relationships with farmers, sustainable practices, and a philosophy of quality over quantity.
First Village also uses premium-quality dairy from Battenkill Farm in all of its milk-based drinks and the Barista Series for almond and soy milks.
A majority of the cafe's products -- from the coffee, to the dairy, to the baked goods -- are sourced within New York state. First Village is also committed to being an environmentally responsible business.
"All our take away products are compostable or made from post-consumer recycled materials and we offer travel mug discounts," said Kathyrn. "In the spring we’ll be offering our coffee grinds to customers to use in their compost and gardening."
She added that the goal of First Village was to create "an inviting community space that serves high-quality products in our hometown."
