Firefighter Burned In Rescue Effort In 2-Alarm Blaze In Hudson Valley, Residents Displaced

A blaze at a Dutchess County residence left a firefighter hospitalized with burns and several residents displaced, fire officials said. 

The fire happened at 46 North Hamilton St. in Poughkeepsie.

The fire began on Wednesday, March 19 just after 9:30 at 46 North Hamilton St. in Poughkeepsie, where a second alarm was eventually transmitted, according to the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department. 

A total of 9 residents were displaced by the fire, according to City of Poughkeepsie Deputy Fire Chief Vincent Parise. 

Three residents and a firefighter were sent to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and have since been released. 

According to Parise, the firefighter suffered minor burns while attempting a potential victim rescue. 

The Red Cross is helping the residents who lost their homes.
