Thaler first served in Nepal from1977-91, when he returned stateside, and went back again in 1999. During his time there, and over the years, Thaler has worked as an adviser to the Nepal government in matters relating to health research, has been associated with programs for the mentally disabled and has fostered educational/scholarship programs for youths. He is also involved with health camps for poor Nepalese and oversees retreats to various religious communities within the country.

"Rebuilding Nepal," which will be on display until early June, describes the day that the ground shook and then takes visitors to cities and villages to witness the devastation.

To help Nepal rebuild, Thaler and his staff continue to work closely with all faiths to deliver supplies, provide food, rebuild homes and re-establish schools.

“It would be difficult to find a better group of folks to work with over these many years,” said Thaler. “They have been very faithful and very hardworking and have made the good name of Maryknoll known in Nepal. During this time, it is a very special honor to join together in interreligious dialogue at its best.”

"Rebuilding Nepal" also provides information about the relief work and shares the local enthusiasm to restart the Maryknoll programs halted by the quake. For information, click here.
