OSSINING, N.Y. An orthodontics supplier in Tarrrytown is moving its headquarters to Ossining and representatives said they hope to bring 25 jobs with them over the next year.
PROPEL Orthodontics is relocating its headquarters from Tarrytown to 233 South Highland Ave. in Ossining to serve as the companys new center of operations, marketing and administration. PROPEL Orthodontics is experiencing rapid growth and recently received funding from Westchester-based Mid-Atlantic Fund, according to a press release.
Ossining had numerous incentives over other possible locations, but it was Ossining Town Council member Peter Tripodi who sealed the deal, said Mid-Atlantic Fund Chairperson Richard Johnson.
Ive known Pete for a long time and hes always encouraging local businesses to try Ossining, Johnson said. I also live in Ossining and had a chance to talk to a local businessman who encouraged us as well and helped us find a good place with some low upfront rent. Between Pete hooking us up and the opportunity to open up in an area with low-cost rent, it seemed like a reasonable thing to do.
In 2010, the company developed the PROPEL System, a novel micro-invasive procedure that is relatively painless for the patient and requires minimal training by the treating clinician, according to the release. Johnson added that he expects the company to experience growth relatively quickly with the planned development of several additional products.
Were in the pre-launch phase of the business so were only employing a handful of people right now, he said. As we grow, were probably going to expand rapidly and selling nationally. Well not only need a national sales force but all of the support that goes with that.
Tripodi said Wednesday that he made the push to bring the company to Ossining after he was discouraged when he learned that Ossining's unemployment reached a 22-year-high earlier this year.
What it comes down to is trying to attract businesses here and making that thought and dream a reality. I think this is the first step of many, Tripodi said. (Seeing) those numbers really sparked me into wanting to do something locally. Its something that is evolving and never ends. Hiring local and shopping local is something you constantly have to be aware of. I see this as something thats part of a bigger picture to make Ossining a more vibrant place.
PROPEL Orthodontics President/CEO Bryce Way commended all parties for helping the company make the move.
