A school district in Westchester is contending with a new spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases as the region does battle with the spread of the Omicron variant of the virus. Irvington Schools Superintendent Kristopher Harrison issued an alert to the community advising that the district has reported 29 new COVID-19 cases between Thursday, Jan. 6 and Monday, Jan. 10. A Westchester high school is set to reopen for in-person learning this week despite a newly confirmed positive COVID-19 case in a student or staffer. Irvington Schools Superintendent Kristopher Harrison issued an alert on Thursday, Jan. 14 advising that a member of the Irvington High School community has tested positive for the virus. The confirmation of new positive COVID-19 cases at a school district in Westchester has resulted in the closure of in-person learning at one school and quarantines for some students and staffers at another. Irvington High School Principal David Cohen is officially leaving the district for a job on Long Island as of July 1. Prior to joining the district in 2013, Mr. Cohen worked as the Principal of Midwood High School in Brooklyn, where he led approximately 4,000 students with a vast array of programs, including 18 AP classes.
