Rockland DA Serves Search Warrant At Hi-Tor Animal Shelter The Rockland County District Attorney's office has executed a search warrant at Hi-Tor Animal Shelter. The warrant search began around 8 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the shelter located in Pomona.  Officers could be seen going in and out of the shelter trailer throughout the morning but officials with the Rockland County DA's office have not released any information. Rabies Exposure Warning Issued By Rockland Health Department A warning for potential exposure to rabies has been issued by the Rockland County Department of Health. The department is asking anyone in the community who may have any knowledge of a woman and girl who dropped off an 8- to 9-week-old kitten at the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in Pomona on Friday, June 26. This family may have been exposed to rabies and the family may need to seek immediate medical attention, the department said.  If medical treatment is started soon after rabies exposure, rabies can be prevented.   Without intervention, rabies is a fatal disease.  The …

Know It? Loose German Shepherd Found In Rockland Police in Ramapo are hopeful of the public’s assistance in reuniting a lost dog with its family in Sloatsburg. The Ramapo Police Department assisted with a lost German Shepherd who was found wandering in the area of Johnsontown Road early on Wednesday morning. The dog has since been transported to the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in Pomona for safekeeping. Rockland Legislature Approves Funding For New Animal Shelter ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Rockland is getting a new animal shelter. County legislators authorized financing for a new animal shelter to house homeless, abandoned and found animals.  The Hi-Tor Animal Care Center,  run by the non-profit Hi-Tor organization, is currently housed in a building legislators said was outdated and cramped. The new $2.05 million shelter will be built on the same county-owned parcel, with the county chipping in $1.2 million, the shelter contributing $350,000 and the state contributing a $500,000 grant.  The county would own the building and Hi-Tor Animal Care Center…
