Longtime New Rochelle High School football coach and teacher Lou DiRienzo will resign at the end of the year after being “reassigned” by the district amid an incident that happened this fall on campus and an unrelated police investigation dating back decades ago. New Rochelle school officials removed DiRienzo from the district and team on Wednesday, Nov. 13 as the varsity team made its run to win the state championship at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. It would have been understandable if all the attention given to the reassignment of head coach Lou DiRienzo proved to be too much of a distraction for the New Rochelle High School football team to overcome in the state playoffs. But that didn't happen. Instead, the Huguenots won three straight games without DiRienzo on the sideline, including a 28-0 victory over McQuaid Jesuit of Rochester in the Class AA state title game on Saturday night, Nov. 30 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Video: Syracuse University Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim Returns To Court Days After Fatal Crash
Syracuse University men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim made his first public appearance three days after the SUV he was driving struck and killed a pedestrian on Saturday, Feb. 23. Boeheim was back on the bench coaching the Orange in a 75-65 nationally televised loss to No. 1-ranked Duke at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
