Clarkstown Central School District's proposed $195.5 million budget for 2016-17 is a 2 percent spending increase over this year. Its property tax levy will increase slightly.
East Ramapo has the largest proposed budget of Rockland County's eight school districts and also the toughest job selling its annual spending plan. East Ramapo residents have defeated six of the district's budgets during the last nine years. East Ramapo Central School District's $224.4 million budget for the next school year is a 2.8 percent spending increase over this year.
East Ramapo proposes the addition of four full-day kindergarten classes, and more programs for reading, music and enhanced art. There were some savings gained through teacher retirements. Polls stay open an hour later to 10 p.m.
Nanuet Union Free School District's $70.9 million budget for next year represents a 4.7 percent annual spending increase over this year. However, the tax levy is expected to decrease by about 3 percent under the proposal.
North Rockland Central School District proposes a $218.3 million budget for 2016-17 which is an increase of 3.8 percent from this year. However, residents would enjoy a slight decrease in the tax levy next year. Polls open at 6:30 a.m.
Nyack Union Free School District's $80.7 million school spending plan calls for a 2.7 percent increase in spending over this year.
Pearl River School District's $64.6 million budget for 2016-17 in about 1.7 percent larger than this year's school budget.
Ramapo Central School District's $134.58 million budget proposal calls for a spending increase of about 2.2 percent. The tax levy would remain unchanged next year.
Four people are running for three open seats on the Ramapo Board of Education: Theresa DiFalco, Joseph Gravagna, Teresa Monahan and Clarke Osborn. Thomas Bollatto of Sloatsburg decided not to seek reelection after serving since 1988. Polls are open an hour earlier, at 6 a.m.
South Orangetown Central School District proposes a $86.65 million budget for next year, the county's smallest annual spending plan increase at about 0.8 percent. Running for school board in South Orangetown are Daniel Lamadrid against Rosemary Pitruzzella
