Three Hudson Valley Counties Have State's Lowest Jobless Rates These counties rank among the lowest for jobless rates in New York state, according to the Labor Department. The counties in New York State with the lowest unemployment rates in March 2018 include: New York County (3.7%) Queens County (3.7%) Richmond County (4.1%) Nassau County (4.2%) Tompkins County (4.2%) Kings County (4.3%) Albany County (4.4%) Putnam County (4.4%) Dutchess County (4.5%) Rockland County (4.5%) Saratoga County (4.5%) Orange, Ulster and Westchester didn't make the list. The jobless rate in all three counties is slightly higher than the state average.

Dutchess Among NY Counties With Lowest Unemployment Rate Putnam, Dutchess and Rockland counties enjoyed some of New York state's lowest unemployment rates, according to the latest report from the state Labor Department.  Putnam, Dutchess and Rockland each ranked among the state's 12 counties-- all with the lowest jobless rate, at 5 percent.

Unemployment Rate Inches Up In Dutchess The unemployment rate in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland and Orange increased year over year according to the State Labor Department's report for Nov. 2017. In Westchester, the unemployment rate was 4.6 percent, an increase from 4.1 percent in Nov. 2016. In Putnam, the unemployment rate was 4.3 percent, an increase from 3.8 percent in Nov. 2016. In Dutchess, the unemployment rate was 4.3 percent, an increase from 3.9 percent in Nov. 2016. In Rockland, the unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, an increase from 4 percent in Nov. 2016.
