Area Couple Charged With Stealing Flowers, Other Items From Graves
Two people have been arrested for allegedly stealing plants, pumpkins, and flowers from graves in a Hudson Valley cemetery.
Orange County residents John D. Riach, age 69, and Lisebeth S. Riach, age 63, both of the Town of Newburgh, were arrested Thursday, Oct. 27 for the incidents which occurred in Ulster County in the town of Lloyd, said Lloyd Police Chief James Janso.

Paul Hansut, who served as supervisor in the Town of Lloyd in Ulster County, died on Saturday, July 17.

Dutchess Man Chokes, Assaults Woman During Domestic Dispute, Police Say
A Poughkeepsie man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and choking a woman during a domestic dispute.
Charles Smiling, 45, was arrested on Friday, July 12, after Town of Lloyd Police responded to a domestic violence call, said Lt. James Janso.
Smiling is accused of entering a 29-year-old Highland woman’s apartment and assaulting her, causing serious facial injuries, Janso said.
He was charged with felony burglary, assault, and felony strangulation and is being held at the Ulster County Jail on $25,000 cash/$50,000 bond.

A 29-year-old man was convicted of the murder of an area woman after slamming into her vehicle driving more than 100 miles per hour and while allegedly driving drunk.
Ryan Williams of Poughkeepsie was convicted on Tuesday, April 30, by an Ulster County jury of murder, four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, unlawful fleeing from police, assault, and aggravated operation of a motor vehicle, said the Ulster County District Attorney's Ofice.

Frank Skartados, longtime Assemblyman for the 104th District in the Hudson Valley, died Sunday morning at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh just weeks after being hospitalized with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
He was 62.
