Area Man Who Stepped Out Of Vehicle After Crash With Deer Struck, Killed By SUV A 70-year-old man was hit and killed by an SUV  when he stepped out of a vehicle to inspect the damage after hitting a deer. The incident took place in Sullivan County around 6:40 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21 in the town of Mamakating, said Trooper Steven Nevel, of the New York State Police. Woman Left 50 Dogs In Area Home With Little Food, Water, Police Say Dozens of dogs were abandoned with limited food and water by a Hudson Valley woman who is now facing animal abuse charges. In Orange County, New York State Police investigators arrested Gulsen Iroldi, age 41, of Unionville, on Wednesday, Oct. 20 under a statute of the Agriculture and Markets Law for torturing animals and failure to provide sustenance. Police said that the investigation determined that Iroldi left approximately 50 dogs in an area residence with very little food and water. 22-Year-Old Killed When Car Crashes Off Road In Area A 22-year-old man was killed following a single-vehicle crash in the area. Brandon S. Sanok, an Orange County resident, was killed around 5 p.m,., Sunday, June 23, on Route 12 in the town of Minisink, said Trooper Steven Nevel, spokesman for the New York State Police. An investigation found that Sanok was driving a 2008 Nissan southwest when his vehicle left the roadway on the south side of the road and overturned. Nevel said. These Hudson Valley Towns Rank Among Highest In State For Most Black Bears Taken In 2018 Hunters in the Hudson Valley were among the most proficient in taking bears, according to the DEC’s Black Bear Harvest summary. During the 2018-2019 hunting season, New Yorkers hunted down 1,295 black bears statewide, a decrease of 125 from the previous year. Of the bears that were hunted, 349 were killed by bow, 66 were killed by a muzzleloader and 11 were taken by youth hunters. In the Southern Zone, 804 bears were killed, 60 percent of which were male, and 491 bears were killed in the Northern Zone.
