Tributes are pouring in for the family of a 22-year-old man who was struck and killed by a passenger train in the region. Rensselaer County resident Kevin Ackerman, age 22, of Castleton-on-Hudson, died Wednesday, March 6, after being hit by an Amtrak train in the town of Schodack. A 52-year-old man went missing in the region on Christmas Day and authorities are asking for the public's help in locating him. Martin Pineiro Rabade, a resident of Saugerties in Ulster County, was last seen in his green Jeep Wrangler at about noontime on Monday, Dec. 25 in Rensselaer County in the town of Castleton-on-Hudson. Foiled Oil Heist: Trio Steals Cooking Grease From Restaurant In Region, Police Say
Three men are facing charges after they were allegedly caught stealing used cooking oil from a restaurant in the region. A Rensselaer County business owner in Castleton on Hudson called police at around 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, saying three men were on their property without permission, according to New York State Police. The owner told investigators that the men were attempting to steal used cooking oil that is saved and sold to a biodiesel company for recycling. A convicted sex offender from the region with a history of abusing young children is facing decades in prison for attempting to coerce a 10-year-old for sex. Rensselaer County resident Charles Wager, age 55, of the village of Castleton-on-Hudson in the town of Schodack, was found guilty of attempting to entice a minor into engaging in unlawful sexual activities in federal court in Utica on Thursday, Feb. 2. Five people are facing charges after being caught with stolen catalytic converters and illegal narcotics after a traffic stop, police said. On Tuesday, Dec. 20, around 5 p.m. police in Columbia County pulled over a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria in Canaan that matched the description of a vehicle that had been used in the theft of catalytic converters, according to New York State Police. A waitress in the Capital Region is facing charges for allegedly stealing a customer’s credit card and then going on a shopping spree. State police in Rensselaer County were called Thursday, Sept. 22, with reports that someone had made over $1,500 in unauthorized charges to the victim’s credit card. Investigators determined that the culprit was 26-year-old Kimberly Gibson, of Castleton-on-Hudson, who works as a waitress at the Schodack Diner, located on Highway 9 in Schodack. A Capital District fire chief is recovering after a large blaze at a vacant business sent him to the hospital. The former owner of a book-printing business in the Capital District will avoid prison after admitting that he defrauded a commercial finance company out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
