Man Dies After Rescuing Grandchildren In Area House Fire, Police Say An area grandfather died after saving his two grandchildren from a fire that destroyed a Hudson Valley home. The fire broke out in Putnam County around 10 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, at a home on Scarsdale Road in Lake Carmel, a hamlet in the town of Kent. Man Struck, Killed By Car On Old Route 6 In Carmel This story has been updated. A 44-year-old man was struck and killed while walking along Old Route 6 in Putnam County. The man, an unidentified Patterson resident, was hit about 7:06 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, in the vicinity of Spins Bowl in Carmel by a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, said Carmel Police. The driver of the vehicle was a 37-year-old male from Stormville, police said.
