Troopers were notified by Dutchess County 911 that an erratically-operated motor vehicle was spotted traveling on Route 308 on Monday, Feb. 29, at approximately 1:32 a.m., officials report.
Troopers located the suspected vehicle, a 2003 Chevy pick-up truck, on Route 199, traveling at a high rate of speed, according to police.
Following the vehicle onto the Taconic State Parkway, the troopers activated their emergency lights and sirens, directing the driver to stop, police report.
The driver, later identified as Thomas H. McCarthy, failed to stop for the police vehicle, exited the roadway and became disabled in the median, according to police.
While police attempted to place McCarthy in custody, he actively resisted arrest, officials report.
McCarthy was charged with felony DWI when a criminal history revealed a previous DWI-related conviction from April 2015; he was also charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle third degree, and resisting arrest, both class A misdemeanors, according to police.
The defendant was arraigned before the Town of Milan Justice Court, and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, officials report.
State Police were assisted on the case by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
