Millbrook Man Charged With Stealing $4.3K In Unemployment Benefits

DOVER, N.Y. -- New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks have charged a 29-year-old resident of Millbrook with grand larceny.

The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by the state Department of Labor and the state police, officials report.

Brian S. Mead Jr. is accused of stealing over $4,300 in unemployment benefits over several months in 2012 and 2013, according to police.

Mead created false business records by certifying weekly that he was unemployed when in fact he was gainfully employed, police report.

Mead, who was lodged in the Dutchess County Jail on unrelated charges, was arrested on Friday, according to police.

He is charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a class E felony, and first-degree falsifying business records, a class E felony, according to officials.

Mead is scheduled to appear in the Dover Town Court on Monday, Feb. 8, police report.
