According to police, Warren L. Thring, 35, originally of South America, but currently living in Red Hook, was driving northbound on Linden Avenue in a 2003 Lexus around 10:30 p.m. when he struck a guide rail near the Red Hook Recreational Park. A passing motorist helped him remove the car from the guide rail, police said.

Thring then got back in his car and continued driving northbound on Linden Avenue where he lost control of his vehicle for the second time, crossing over the double yellow lines and striking a tree head-on, police said.

When officers arrived they found Thring, who suffered minor injuries, was driving under the influence, police said.

After being treated by emergency services, Thring was taken into custody and charged with DWI before he was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court at future date, police said.
