Joshua S. Richter, 32, was arrested at the store on Thursday, Feb. 25, police said.
Store security said that Richter left the Ulster County store without paying for $51.40 worth of merchandise, police said.
The arresting officer reported finding suboxone, a medication used to treat opiate addiction.
Because Richter didn’t have a prescription for the medication, he was charged with seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, police said.
He also faces charges of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, police said.
Richter was ticketed, released, and ordered to appear in the Town of Ulster Justice Court at a later date, police said.
