Robert 'Bob' Curthoys, 87, Of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Robert "Bob" Curthoys, 87, of Rhinebeck, died Sept. 17. 

He was a lifelong resident of Rhinebeck and graduated Rhinebeck High School with the class of 1948. 

He was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie as an accountant in the manufacturing and engineering division. He retired after 35 years and opened a restaurant - Schemmy's, in Rhinebeck, with his wife and family. 

He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Red Hook Golf Club. He was an animal lover who always had a dog and was a friend to all the other dogs in the neighborhood, with his pocket full of dog biscuits. 

He served in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of corporal. He was in the service during the Korean War. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary "Mai" Gavin; children and grandchildren, Patricia and her husband Richard Von Husen, Joseph and his wife Kim Curthoys and their children Liam Gavin and Amelia Mai Grace, Cathleen and her husband Hans Boehm and their sons Gavin Paul and Brendan Bob and Nola and her husband Tim Econopouly. 

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. A graveside service will be conducted at noon Tuesday at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhinecliff.
