He was born in 1952 in Johnson City. He graduated from Johnson City High School in 1970 and went on to earn a degree in business from Broome Community College in 1972.
He worked as a store manager for several Grand Union stores before owning/operating Zenzel's Country Store (Kearn's) in Mabbettsville for 16 years. He was a lifetime member of Neighbors' Gun Club and enjoyed hunting for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle J. Zenzel; son, Jeffrey D. Zenzel; daughter, Deborah Zenzel-Haag; grandchildren, Dominick and Annabelle Haag; siblings, Nancy, Gary, Eric, and Alan Zenzel; and Theresa Zenzel-Jellick; and many loving aunts, nephews, nieces and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his son, Gregory J. Zenzel; and parents, John and Mary Zenzel.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Sweet’s Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will take place at 8 p.m. during the calling hours. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
