RED HOOK, N.Y. -- Charles E. Dietz Jr., of Red Hook, died Tuesday, Nov. 22. He was 84.

Born July 22, 1932, in Bayonne, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles E. Dietz Sr and Theresa (Betaschay) Dietz. 

He married Lillian Garippa Sept. 11, 1954 in Jersey City, N.J.; she survives at home in Red Hook. 

For 30 years, he worked for the Ford Motor Company, and later as a school bus driver for the Monroe-Woodbury school district. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. He fought in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. He was a communicant of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook and previously of St. Anastasia Church in Harriman, where he served on the parish council and as the facility maintenance manager.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Donna (Bill) Downs, Lisa (Jim) Obrizok and Charles (Veronica) Dietz III; siblings, Johnny Dietz, Marylou Lang, and Joseph Dietz; granddaughters, Jill and Jenna Obrizok; and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Friday and 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon Saturday at St. Christopher's Church, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook. Interment will be private at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Red Hook. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Christopher's Parish, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY 12571, the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
