Student-brewed Beer Available for the First Time At Hyde Park's CIA

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- This is one college class where students probably don’t mind taking course work home … or drinking it.

The CIA has introduced the first three beers brewed on its Hyde Park, N.Y. campus as part of the culinary college's new Art & Science of Brewing elective.

The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park has introduced the first three beers brewed on campus as part of its new Art & Science of Brewing elective.

The college and Brooklyn Brewery partnered up to build a brew house at the college.

The intent of the course is not only to elevate the status of beer on restaurant menus, but to familiarize future food service and hospitality leaders with how beer is produced.

The student-brewed beers -- Cleaver IPA, a golden-colored India Pale Ale featuring robust American hop flavor and aromas; Mise en Place Wit, a Belgian-style Witbier brewed with unmalted white wheat and American two-row barley; and Cast Iron Stout, an oatmeal stout with a rich roasty malt body and notes of chocolate and espresso – are now available at American Bounty Restaurant, one of the college's public restaurants, and in its Student Commons.

The CIA’s other restaurants on the New York campus --The Bocuse Restaurant, Ristorante Caterina de' Medici, The Apple Pie Bakery Café, and Pangea -- will begin offering the beers later this winter.
