HYDE PARK, N.Y. - Traffic was backed up on Rt. 9 for at least a mile Wednesday night, as cars slowly snaked their way into the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site to take in a summer music series.
Music in the Parks alternates between Vanderbilt National Historic Site and Staatsburgh (formerly known as Mills State Park).
The summer music series started June 1, and continues on Wednesday nights through August 24, but many at this week's event said it was the biggest crowd so far this summer.
Families and friends sat on blankets and chairs on the sprawling, massive lawn in front of the mansion.
Some just listened, some had picnics set up.
But all were enjoying the beautiful weather, the historic site and stunning grounds (though there was some construction going on around the mansion), and the music of Big Band Sound, an area favorite that specializes in their namesake sound.
