Former Hudson Valley Resident Returns To US After Years-Long Imprisonment In Iran
A man who graduated from a high school in Westchester has been returned to American soil after being detained in Iran for almost eight years. Siamak Namazi, who once lived in Westchester, was returned home to the US along with four other American citizens on Monday, Sept. 18, President Joe Biden announced. Namazi is a graduate of White Plains High School, according to a report by NBC News. He had been wrongfully detained in Iran since October 2015, when he was accused of espionage. A high school legend in Westchester who made her mark as a player, coach, and teacher has died. Sue Adams was 62 years old. She died "peacefully surrounded by family" at White Plains Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 24, following a yearlong battle with ovarian cancer, according to her obituary. A beloved former conductor and high school band director known for starting a love of music in countless people in Westchester County has died. Alfred Renino of White Plains died on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the age of 92, according to his obituary. Known by many as "Maestro," Renino was the founder, director, and conductor of the White Plains Pops Band, performing in the city's parks for 25 years from 1981 to 2005. A Westchester school district was put on high alert when an intruder “exhibiting signs of emotional distress” entered an area high school and refused to comply with security, officials said.
