Woman From Region Charged With Making A Threat Of Mass Harm Against School A woman from the region has been charged with allegedly making a threat of mass harm after she threatened to blow up a middle school. The incident occurred in Sullivan County around 5:20 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22 in the village of Liberty. According to Chief Steven D'Agata of the Liberty Police Department, Chiffvon Steele, age 42, of Liberty, commented to staff at Liberty Middle School that she would  “blow this [expletive] place up." Man From Region Arrested 4 Times In 2-Week Span For Stalking, Police say A man from the region was arrested four times in two weeks for allegedly stalking and harassing an employee of a local bank. Sullivan County resident Jhakem Degroat, age 31, of Monticello was arrested for the fourth time in Liberty on Friday, Oct. 13, said Chief Steven D’Agata of the Liberty Police. All of the arrests stemmed from incidents surrounding his stalking and harassing behavior of an employee at a local bank in the village of Liberty, D'Agata said. Orange County Man Admits To Stabbing Woman, Burning Down Her Home During Second Attack An area man who had assaulted a woman and returned two days later and stabbed the woman and burned down her family's home has pleaded guilty. Orange County resident Anthony Mahabir, 38, of the City of Newburgh, pleaded guilty in Orange County Court on Wednesday, Oct. 21, assault, arson, and criminal contempt, said the Orange County District Attorney's Office. The plea was in connection with the stabbing of the woman on March 26 after being arrested two days earlier for assaulting the same woman, the DA's Office said.
