The robbery took place around 12:37 a.m. at 163 S. Liberty Drive, when a stocky man walked into the store, jumped the counter and threatened the cashier with the hammer, said Lt. Keith  Williams.

According to Williams, the suspect, wearing gray sweatpants, a maroon sweatshirt, a wool cap, gloves and a white towel covering his face, forced the cashier to open the register and take the cash draw out of the machine.

He then forced the employee into a bathroom and left the store with an undetermined amount of cash, fleeing northbound toward Major Andre Drive, he added.

A search of the area was unsuccessful, Williams said.
