That case sent fear into the gay community and exposed a sadomasochistic world to investigators. A hearing was held last week on LeGeros' request for release on his second-degree murder conviction in the brutal death of Eigil Dag Vesti on Feb. 23, 1985, lohud.com reports.

The murder trial drew national interest and resulted in two books focused on the case. Authorities alleged the S&M murder was orchestrated by Manhattan art dealer Andrew Crispo, who could not be convicted in this case but ended up serving time for other charges lohud.com says.
