Angelo J. Cintron, 92, Haverstraw Resident

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. — Haverstraw resident Angelo J. Cintron died Thursday, April 21. He was 92.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Cintron moved to New York with his family and had been a resident of Rockland County since 1964. 

He was a World War II veteran, serving as a sergeant from 1943-46 in the U.S. Army Air Forces. 

He was the owner of Cintron Insurance, Travel & Income Tax Agency from 1965-93. 

Cintron also was elected to the Haverstraw Village Board in 1992 and once served as deputy mayor and police commissioner. 

He was one of the founding members of the Haverstraw Hispanic-American Lions Club, First Chairman of the Rockland County Education and Anti Bias Commission, he started the Development and Revitalization Project of the Haverstraw Waterfront and assisted in shutting down the Garbage Recycling Plant to preserve the waterfront.

Cintron also served as chairman of the board for the Haverstraw Enrichment Movement. 

He is survived by his four children, Michael A. Cintron, Barbara A. Cintron, Alexandra Cintron, Patricia A. Cintron; five grandchildren, Damian, Chad, Allison, Joel, Joseph, and Andre; great-grandson, Max; and sister, Patricia Cintron-Furnari.

He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Norma Cintron; son, Richard A. Cintron; and sister, Yolanda Cintron. 

Memorial services to celebrate his life will be conducted from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the George M. Holt Funeral Home, 50 New Main St., Haverstraw. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Angelo J. Cintron may be made to the Haverstraw Hispanic American Lions Club, 13 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY 10927.
