Ryan McIntosh, 30, was charged with agriculture and Markets Law Misdemeanors of Abandonment of an Animal and Animal Cruelty, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office was contacted Jan. 5 by the Town of Rochester Animal Control Officer reporting an abandoned pitbull that was located on Rock Hill Road, in the Town of Rochester, according to the sheriff's office.
There were reported sightings of this dog in the Alligerville area since Jan. 1 but the dog was not rescued until the early morning hours of Jan. 5, said the sheriff's office.
Information about the found dog was posted on social media with the "Lost Pets of the Hudson Valley" page and with the assistance of the public McIntosh was identified as the owner of the dog, "Tyson", according to the sheriff's office.
Upon investigation, it was allegedly revealed that McIntosh did intentionally abandon Tyson in that area on New Years Eve, said the sheriff's office.
Tyson was deprived of essential food, water, and shelter which exposed him to freezing weather conditions for the days following his abandonment until finally being rescued, according to the sheriff's office.
Tyson required care from a local veterinarian and is expected to fully recover, said the sheriff's office.
Mr. McIntosh was arrested Jan. 10 at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center, according to the sheriff's office.
