Weather Alters Rockland's Many Memorial Day Festivities

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Due to a rainy forecast many Memorial Day parades have been cancelled, though ceremonies will still occur.

Almost every town and village across Rockland honors the men and women who have died serving our country. The following is a sampling of where to go though check your town's website for an update.

Nyack: The Nyack American Legion is behind the annual Memorial Day Parade which starts at 11 a.m.. The lineup begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Artopee Way parking lot behind the former Riverspace Arts Center with a ceremony and festivities to follow in Memorial Park.

New City: The parade will kick off from Main Street at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a ceremony on the County Courthouse steps.

Sloatsburg: Join the Memorial Day festivities at l0 a.m. starting at the Municipal Building, 96 Orange Turnpike. The parade marches down Route 17. march down Route l7 with refreshments following at the Sloatsburg Community Fields Pavilion.

Stony Point: A veterans service starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Mt. Rest Cemetery on West Main Street. The annual parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on the corner of Jay Street and Teneyeck Street, with a service at 10:30 a.m. at Stony Point Town Hall, 74 E. Main St.

A commemoration of fallen soldiers from all wars with a presentation in the 18th century military fashion takes place at the Stony Point Battlefield (44 Battlefield Rd.) from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Suffern: The parade has been cancelled; instead there will be a ceremony at the American Legion at 11 a.m.
