Enjoy The Festival Of Lights With Rockland County's Many Hanukkah Events

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Hanukkah falls early this year -- it begins at sunset, Sunday, Dec. 6 and lasts until Monday, Dec. 14.- and, as always, Fairfield County is ablaze with events. What follows is a sampling.

Nanuet: Fairway is offering "8 Days of Oil, " on Tuesday, Dec. 8, an in-store event sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Rockland County and the Rockland Jewish Initiative. Meet at the market to taste different flavors of oil, learn about its role in the Chanukah story, and find out about holiday foods and customs. New City: The Stop and Shop on Main Street is offering a "Donuts and Dreidels" event on Tuesday, Dec. 8 from noon to 2 p.m. the event is sponsored by Rockland Jewish Academy. Information: (845) 627-0010.

Nyack: The JCC Rockland will host a Koenig Family Chanukah Concert featuring Mama Doni Sunday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m.The Mama Doni Band celebrates Jewish culture with high-energy, interactive family rock concerts filled with a contagious and unexpected blend of reggae, rock, disco, Latin and klezmer Information: 450 W. Enjoy latkes along with jelly doughnuts, songs and a make your own craft at a family Chanukah party Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 5 p.m. at Congregation Sons of Israel, Information: 300 N. Broadway, (845) 358-3767, www.csinyack.org/.

Need a book or gift? The PJ Library Chanukah Book Fair & Gift Wrap Event takes place Sunday, Dec. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Barnes and Noble Palisades Center,and includes a puppet show, crafts and special guests from the community. Also at the Palisades Center: a Chanukah candle lighting on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 4;30 p.m. that will be held simultaneously celebration with U.S. military locations worldwide. The event will be broadcast live to enable Jewish troops and others around the world to join in Chanukah’s traditional celebration of miracles.
