Early Season Snowfall Hits New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The city of New Rochelle has issued an emergency message to residents warning them to beware of falling trees and asking them to report problems caused by Saturday's wet, early season snowfall. 

“Today’s storm creates a significant risk of falling trees and branches,” the notice says. "Residents are to please report downed trees on public roadways to the New Rochelle Police at 654-2300.

"If you have lost power, please contact Con Edison at 1-800-75CONED. Lastly, we recommend that you avoid any unnecessary travel.”

The message is posted, along with other information, at www.newrochelleny.com.

The New Rochelle Police Department reported this afternoon it had been extremely busy, answering a large volume of calls concerning downed wires and trees.

Con Ed is reporting 108 power outages with 1,688 residents affected.

Marie Savoca wishes the snow would blanket the area on a day other than the weekend.

 “I” want it on a school day,” she posted on Facebook.

Cecilia Orlando posted “(it) gives us something to talk about. Ten years from now, we will be saying, ‘Remember the year it snowed before Halloween?’ "

Bunny Smith-Anderson is quite thrilled about the early season snowfall. “(I) LOVE IT!!!” she posted on Facebook.

Lynn Fanelli is also enjoying the historical moment “(it’s) my absolute favorite weather,” she wrote on the site.”
