Mosquito Prevention: Officials Handing Out Free Dunks To Kill Larvae In Westchester To help combat the spread of mosquitos in Westchester, officials will give out free dunks to residents meant to kill off larvae. On Friday, May 17 between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the Westchester County Health Department will hand out free mosquito dunks for placing in bird baths, rain barrels, unused pools, lined ornamental ponds, and other areas with standing water. Flooding Causes Bronx River Parkway Closure This story has been updated. With heavy rains hitting the area, the Westchester County Department of Public Works has been forced to close a stretch of the Bronx River Parkway due to flooding in the area early Tuesday afternoon. The DPW issued an alert stating that the parkway will be closed from the Westchester County Center to the Cross County Parkway. The parkway was closed from the County Center to the Sprain Brook Parkway at 1:30 p.m. before being extended to the Cross County Parkway a short time later.
