Several beaches in Westchester along Long Island Sound have been closed indefinitely following the discovery of bacteria in the water, officials said. The eight beaches, located in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, and Rye, were shut down on Tuesday, Aug. 29 based on the bacteriological results of beach water samples collected the day before, the Westchester Health Department announced. Westchester's pools and amusement parks will be open this summer as the county continues combating the spread of COVID-19. Westchester Beaches Will Remain Open Due To Extreme Heat
There is an upside to extreme heat: Westchester County is opening up beaches normally closed on Tuesday, Aug. 7 due to another official heat wave.Two popular beaches -- in Rye and New Rochelle -- are normally closed on Tuesdays.
