Driver Freed From Wrecked Vehicle After 2-Car Crash Near Ice Rink In Westchester Firefighters had to remove a door to free a driver from their car after a two-vehicle crash near an ice rink in Northern Westchester. The crash happened on Thursday, Nov. 21 around 7:30 a.m., when two cars collided on Jay Street near the entrance to the Evarts Ice Rink at the Harvey School in Katonah, according to the Katonah Fire Department.  Arriving fire crews soon realized that one of the drivers was trapped in their vehicle and used portable cutters and spreaders to free them. Blaze Breaks Out At Shopping Plaza In Westchester: Developing Firefighters were seen battling a blaze at a shopping plaza in Westchester.  The fire broke out on Monday afternoon, Nov. 18 at the Vernon Place Shops in the area of 717 White Plains Rd. near the border of Eastchester and Scarsdale, according to reports.  Smoke was seen pouring out of the shopping center's roof.  A large police and firefighter presence is now at the shopping center. Passenger Rescued From Crashed Vehicle On Busy Parkway In Westchester A person was hospitalized after being rescued from a crashed car on a busy parkway in Northern Westchester.  The incident happened on Saturday, June 22 around 12:15 a.m., when a car crashed on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway just north of Exit 25, according to the Hawthorne Fire Department. Arriving fire crews found that one person was still trapped in the car, which had crashed off the roadway. Firefighters then used hurst tools to extricate the passenger.  After the rescue, the passenger was taken to a nearby hospital.  The cause of the crash was not released.
