DNA Technology Identifies 9/11 Victim As 44-Year-Old NY Man
The latest 9/11 victim has been confirmed using new technology, officials announced. On Thursday, Jan. 18, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced alongside the city’s Chief Medical Examiner that the Long Island man has been identified as Oyster Bay resident John Ballantine Niven. Niven is the 1,650th person to be identified through advanced DNA analysis of remains recovered from the attack. This story has been updated. Police investigators have identified another victim in the Long Island Gilgo Beach murder investigation. The name for a victim who had been known as Fire Island Jane Doe No. 7 was revealed to be Karen Vergata, age 34, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney and the Gilgo Beach Investigative Taskforce announced in a news conference late Friday morning, Aug. 4. A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with shots fired outside an area high school. The incident took place around 3:15 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15, in Dutchess County. That's when the City of Poughkeepsie Police received numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of Poughkeepsie High School. According to Det. Lt. A 45-year-old man in Westchester has been indicted for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a minor over the course of two years and impregnating her. Croton-on-Hudson resident Pablo Dure was indicted on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and arraigned on one count of course of sexual conduct against a child, a violent felony, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced. The body of a woman found 23 years ago in North Carolina has been identified as being a Westchester resident who was reported missing by her family. Stacey Boothe-Wilson, was 33 years old when she was reported missing in October 1995 to Greenburgh Police. Years later, it would be a small DNA sample from a postage stamp provided by Greenburgh police that led the Jacksonville Police Department in North Carolina to identify her remains found all those years ago.
