Two black bears were seen together at an intersection in Northern Westchester, officials announced. The duo was seen by the intersection of Route 116 and Route 121 on Old Salem Center Road in North Salem, Supervisor Warren Lucas announced on Thursday, Oct. 12 around 4:15 p.m. Authorities were notified about the animals, but Lucas said residents should have no cause for concern. Some Northern Westchester residents had an unexpected visitor as one or more black bears made the rounds through their neighborhoods. The New Castle Police Department issued alerts for two separate bear sightings that happened in a 24-hour span. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has launched an investigation into the deaths of two female black bears whose bodies were found in the Fuller Mountain Preservice in Warwick last week. Members of the NYSDEC responded to the Conservation on Wednesday, Jan. 2, when the two bears were found in the park.
