New Rochelle Looks for Rebound Win At Mahopac

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – After faltering last week in a 14-0 loss to John Jay-East Fishkill, the New Rochelle football team seeks redemption and a win when it travels to Mahopac High School Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

The five-time defending Section 1 Class AA champion Huguenots were blanked 14-0 in a game of unbeaten teams that left John Jay euphotic and New Rochelle a little surprised. The Huguenots had won 32 consecutive Section 1 games since losing to Carmel in 2008, a loss they avenged later in the season in the playoffs.

Quarterback Khalil Edney, running back Kemet McLean, freshman back Jonathan Forrest and tight end Joe Clarke are keys to the offense. The special teams with returner Jason Ceneus give the Huguenots an added dimension and provided scoring and field position over the first three games. Durrell Rice anchors the defense that has allowed 14 points in four games.

Mahopac (2-2) has lost two straight games, most recently a 28-21 loss to Scarsdale. Patrick Donahoe is the quarterback and he has several running backs behind him who have complied a total of 830 yards over four games. Donahue has completed 20 of 38 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns and has rushed for more than 200 yards, so he is the ability to pass or pull the ball down and run.

This will be a tough day for Mahopac with a short work week and an upset New Rochelle team that will be happy to get the taste of defeat of its mouth.
